Our Philosophy: BJJ as a Game of Human Chess
Professor Silva often compares BJJ to chess. It is a martial art that relies on technique, strategy, and leverage, not punching or kicking. This philosophy empowers a smaller person to overcome a larger opponent through skill rather than brute force. Every move has a consequence, and success comes from patience, timing, and focus. This approach translates directly to life, teaching students to respond to challenges thoughtfully and with confidence.
From the Mat to the Community: Anti-Bullying and Law Enforcement Training
Professor Silva's mission extends beyond the academy. He developed "Verbal Jiu-Jitsu," a communication method based on BJJ principles, to handle conflict constructively. He offers free anti-bullying speeches to Bay Area schools to ensure every child can learn in a safe environment.
