🗣 Verbal Jiu-Jitsu™ — Self-Defense Begins With Words
Our academy is one of the few schools in the Bay Area that teaches a full Verbal Jiu-Jitsu™ program, designed to help students resolve conflict before it becomes physical.
Students learn how to:
• De-escalate tension
• Use confident, calm body language
• Speak clearly and respectfully
• Set boundaries
• Walk away safely
• Handle bullies without aggression
• Stay emotionally regulated even under pressure
Verbal Jiu-Jitsu is the modern evolution of the Gentle Art — defending yourself through emotional intelligence and communication, not force.
🥋 In One Sentence?
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the Gentle Art — a healing, non-violent path to strength, awareness, emotional balance, and self-defense. We teach it with harmony, compassion, and the power of Verbal Jiu-Jitsu, so our students can live safer, calmer, and more confident lives.
What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
🌿 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu — The Gentle Art, The Gentle Way
Peaceful, Intelligent, Non-Violent Self-Defense for Real Life
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is commonly known as one of the most effective martial arts in the world — but at its heart, it is something far more meaningful.
The word Jiu-Jitsu comes from two Japanese characters:
JU (柔) — gentle, flexible, adaptable
JITSU (術) — art, method, technique
Together they mean:
“The Gentle Art” — the ability to stay calm, centered, and effective without using violence.
True Jiu-Jitsu is not about overpowering others.
It is about harmony, awareness, timing, and intelligent movement.
It teaches students to flow around force instead of fighting against it, to use leverage instead of strength, and to find clarity in moments where others panic.
🧘♂️ The Way We Teach: Peace First, Technique Second
At Alameda Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy, we honor the original philosophy of the Gentle Art.
Our training environment is:
• Calm
• Patient
• Non-competitive
• Family-friendly
• Emotionally supportive
• Built for safety and confidence
We don’t train children or adults to fight.
We train them to stay safe, stay aware, and stay grounded — in life, at school, at work, and at home.
Every technique we teach is rooted in:
✔ Non-violence
✔ Respect
✔ Connection
✔ Mindfulness
✔ Emotional stability
✔ Clear communication
✔ Self-awareness
This is not martial arts for aggression.
This is martial arts for life.
💚 A Modern Approach to a Timeless Philosophy
Our method blends:
🌿 Traditional Gentle Art principles
with
🗣 Modern verbal self-defense & life skills training
to create a complete system that protects the body, mind, and spirit.
Students don’t just learn how to escape danger —
they learn how to avoid it altogether.
Children become more confident, more respectful, more patient, and more emotionally stable.
Adults become calmer, clearer, healthier, and more grounded.
This is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu the way it was meant to be taught:
peaceful, powerful, intelligent, and deeply human.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for
Self-Defense
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for Self-Defense and Restraining Control
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is more than a sport—it’s a complete self-defense system designed to protect, control, and neutralize opponents without relying on brute strength or aggression. Built on leverage, balance, and technique, BJJ allows you to restrain and subdue an attacker safely and effectively, whether you’re standing or on the ground.
Unlike striking arts that depend on punches and kicks, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu focuses on control, teaching how to close distance, clinch, take the fight to the ground, and dominate positions such as mount, side control, or back control. From these dominant positions, you can apply holds, joint locks, or chokes to neutralize threats without causing unnecessary harm.
This makes BJJ the most practical martial art for real-life self-defense, trusted by law enforcement, military, and security professionals worldwide. Under the instruction of Professor Sergio Silva, a 5th-degree black belt in BJJ, black belt in Judo, and former World Champion of Submission Wrestling, students learn the science behind control and restraint—how to defend themselves with precision, protect others, and stay calm under pressure.
Through Professor Silva’s Verbal Jiu-Jitsu training, students also master the art of avoiding confrontation through communication, awareness, and emotional intelligence—proving that the most powerful defense begins before a fight ever starts.
At Alameda Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & Self-Defense Academy, we don’t just teach how to win fights—we teach how to end them before they begin.
