A Pioneer of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Alameda

In 2006, Professor Silva made history as the first Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt from Brazil to open a BJJ academy in Alameda. His mission was simple but powerful: to make world-class martial arts training accessible to everyone — from preschool children to working professionals and law enforcement officers.

Through his dojo, Silva has created a thriving martial arts community focused on respect, confidence, and self-defense, offering programs for all ages and levels. He has also volunteered his time teaching in Alameda’s public schools and PTAs, helping children build focus, coordination, and character through motor fitness and self-discipline.

A Legacy That Reaches Beyond Alameda

Professor Silva’s journey began in Curitiba, Brazil, in 1992 — the same city that produced many of the greatest fighters in the world. By 1997, Silva was already coaching elite athletes and training UFC and Pride legends, including Murilo “Ninja” Rua and Maurício “Shogun” Rua, while sharing the mats with greats such as Anderson Silva and Wanderlei Silva.

Silva’s dedication to mastery led him to train twice with the legendary Professor Wally Jay, the Jiu-Jitsu master who taught Bruce Lee. Those experiences further shaped Silva’s teaching philosophy — blending precision, leverage, and compassion to create martial artists who are powerful both mentally and physically.

Teaching Leaders, Law Enforcement, and CEOs

Since 2001, Professor Silva has also worked closely with law enforcement and security professionals across the Bay Area and beyond, training members of SWAT, FBI agents, and executive protection teams. His client list includes high-profile leaders and executives from companies like North Face, Microsoft, Apple, and more, all seeking Silva’s expertise in tactical self-defense, control, and mental discipline.

Empowering the Community Through the Martial Arts

Today, Professor Silva continues to share his passion for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, self-defense, and community empowerment. His programs in Alameda are built not just to train fighters — but to help people of all backgrounds build confidence, focus, and peace of mind through the art of Jiu-Jitsu.

Whether you’re a parent seeking confidence and discipline for your child, a professional looking to reduce stress, or someone who simply wants to get in the best shape of their life, Professor Silva’s Alameda Jiu-Jitsu academy offers a home for everyone ready to grow.
