Thomas Hingano is a multiple times National Champion including the prestigious Pan American Championships where he won double GOLD medals(In his division and at Open Division).Thomas also recently won the US Open and 3 weeks later won his first profession Submission Wrestling(NoGi) tournament.Thomas now is a purple belt at 20 years of age and he has been training with master Silva since 2005.Thomas is one of the assistant instructors at our Team Silva Facility in Alameda-
Here one of our teammates/student winning the National Championships as a purple belt and one month later he would win the purple belt division as a purple belt and receiving his brown belt at the podium.3 weeks later Christian Hernandez ended up going to Los Angeles to try the Submission Wrestling World Championships and ended up winning first place at his division and second place at the Open Division-Christian AKA-Pirate is one of our competitors that won his brown belt in less than 6 years learning the Team Silva method-
The journey of the Martial Artist Sergio Silva start in the february of 1983 when Sergio got as gift on his birthday a FREE Judo lessons from his parents-He started at the local country club in his native city-Curitba,Parana Brazil.Then later on he went ahead and enroll at his uncle Judo academy-Edgar Barreto.
In there along with his brother Sergio Silva would practice every monday,wednesday and Fridays.As years passing by Sergio enroll at several different activities like soccer,capoeira and swimming.
In 1985 he was invited to enjoy a soccer club one of the biggest in the city owned by a private school-Positivo.In there master Sergio ended up be able to attended it the school(His soccer skills would cover 75% of the cost)with that great opportunity he was able to get his education plus be an accomplish soccer player.

In that period of 1985 and 1987 Sergio would only practice Martial arts with his brother on saturdays that he would not have a game-In those saturdays his brother Julio Linhares,would invite several other Martial Artist to come down and share their acknowledge with each other.Back then we had fighters from all backgrounds:Kung Fu,Aikido,Karate,Capoeira,Judo and boxing.He was a fu period since Sergio used to be the smaller person in the dojo trying to learn the techniques and different way to fight.
Sergio Silva started teaching the art of Judo(1992) where he holds a black belt under the master Edgar Barreto-http://www.escolaterrafirme.com.br/pedagogas.html- Master Silva taught judo for pre school kids from 1992-1999.

It was only in 1992 when Sergio start come back to judo and then his first BJJ class in an academy that just had opened two block away from his home-Guardian academy-leaded by the Carlson Gracie black belt-Alexandre Penao-
Alexandre Penao was Sergio Silva first BJJ teacher Sergio would spent several hours per day fascinated by the ancient Martial arts of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
In October of 1993 Sergio went ahead and start practicing with few of his friends in a country club that call AABB with professor Evanri Gurgel!
In there Sergio discovered that competition was really an amazing entertainment and in there he was where he made his best friends.
Sergio now would spent between 3-5 hours a day on the mats practicing BJJ and Mixed Martial Arts.He met a very good BJJ instructor that ended up been one of his very closest friend-Robson Passos.
After almost 8 years practicing BJJ in there master Silva would switch academy since he was planning to move to United States and was looking to advance his level to the brown belt-So he enjoy the school Gracie Barra-Curitiba,lead by Gustavo Muggiati ,Cuca and Helio Soneca “Sonequinha”.
In 1999 after been a establish judo and BJJ teacher and after winning several State and National titles,Master Silva decided to share his acknowledge to the North America citizens-so he moved to United States.
In United States he would always remember everyone that taught him techniques and would share with everyone that would like to learn this amazing Martial Arts of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
He got an invitation from a black belt from the Ricardo De Lariva academy-Marcelo Grosso and a brown belt at the time Marcelo Monteiro. They met in Orlando,FL but both of the teacher the were about to go opening a Martial Arts academy in Detroit.
After spent 3 months in their camp getting ready to the Pan Americans,Sergio would go fight the 2000 Pan American Championships.Winning a fight with a very impressive way master Silva received an invitation to enjoy the Team Ralph Gracie and be one of the assistant instructors out there for over 3 years.
At Ralph Gracie Sergio Silva received his Brown belt in december of 2000 and went off to open a BJJ academy in Seattle for about one year(2000-2001)
In August of 2003 Sergio Silva received an invitation to teach a Seminar at the academy of the master Marcelo Monteiro (www.bjjcoach.com)and in the end of the seminar Master Monteiro award Sergio as a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-JItsu.
Sergio spent several hours of private instruction with Marcelo and his teacher the grand master Ricardo De LaRiva. With Master Ricardo DeLa Riva Sergio would spent over 50 private lessons as translator for the class since professor DeLa Riva would not know how to speak english that well.

Sergio Silva studied for 3 years Physical education in Brazil (1997-1999)at University Positivo in Curitiba and also studied the art of Ginastica Natural for several years practicing in the dojo,videos and personal lessons with the creator of the Ginastica Natural(Alvaro Romano).
Master Silva also is a student in Vinyasa Yoga of Rebecca Trissell since- 2007.
Master Silva used to be a counselor for kids and teenagers with mental disability for 3 years(2001-2003)Seneca Center-www.senecacenter.org.
Sergio Silva taught BJJ classes at Arena academy(www.arenaonline.com.br)from 1996-1998.He also was an assistant instructor of Gracie Curitiba from 1998-1999.
Besides teaching Martial arts classes and helping local fighters in NorCal to be a better fighters by organizing the Jiu-Jitsu by the Bay and Bay Area Championships,Sergio Silva also is one of the organizers of helping people that suffered from Natural Tragedies-Earthquakes,Hurricane,Mudslides and floods…Sergio was the head organizer for the biggest Seminar in history in Norcal of California for helping the victims of the Earthquake in Haiti,the flood in Pakistan,the mudslide in Brazil and Tsunami in Japan-
